Island Pizzeria supports Cedar Key School

By Caely Hibbits- Shark Correspondent

Island Pizzeria, which opened last year, is supporting the school with the sales of their medium sized pizzas. When a medium sized pizza is purchased one dollar is put in a jar. The money is then sent to the school and a name of one teacher is drawn from the hat, each month.

For the month of August, Ms. Bailey, the new Business Teacher, won the drawing. She received $136.00 to use for her classroom or the club sponsors, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). FBLA is a club that travels to competitions and conferences so the money will either go towards fees to enter the competitions or to buy supplies.

Another way that Island Pizzeria is supporting the school is by lowering the cost of pizza when the school purchases them for the concession stand or reward parties. At the moment, the school and owners of Island Pizzeria are working on purchasing an oven for the school to keep pizza warm at the concession stand. The money raised during the month of September will be going to Mr. Whitman for science supplies.

The faculty, staff, and student body would like to extend a thank you to Island Pizzeria for their support of the school.

Peace, Love, Yearbook

By Caely Hibbits- Shark Correspondent

Cedar Key School has begun work on the 2009-2010 yearbook. Every year Herff-Jones, the publisher of the book, provides a theme for their website and workshops throughout the year. This year the theme is "Peace, Love, YBK." Steven Walace, Cedar Key`s representative with Herff Jones came to design the cover of the 2009-2010 yearbook. The Journalism/Yearbook students will be producing the book over the internet as they did last year; it will also be in color.

The yearbook is only made possible by those who support the school with their advertisements in the back of the book. Recently Journalism students have been traveling to the local business, renewing their advertising contracts for another year. To purchase an advertisement, please contact the school and a journalism student will come speak with you about the logistics of the ad.

Creek Side Takes Home the Win

By Laia Gore- Shark Correspondent

The Middle School Lady Sharks Volleyball team dueled against the Creek Side Lady Otters on Friday September 11th narrowly being defeated. There were two matches in this nail biting sporting event. The first match finished off with a score of 25 to 20, the Otters in the lead.

The second match was intense. If the Sharks won the second match, they would still have a chance. The Sharks finished strongly with smiles on their faces with a score of 25 to 21. The Lady Otters had won the match but the Lady Sharks played well and had a great first game.

The top four point scorers were Shea Osteen with 4 aces and 6 earned points, Brooke Allen with 2 aces and 6 earned points, Taryn Epperson with 1 ace and 3 earned points and Kira Telgen with 7 earned points. After the game, Coach Malinda Roland had this to say about the two gut-wrenching matches, "I`m very proud of how well they played; I love these girls and I`m glad to be their coach."
