The Cedar Key Bird Rescue Program is vibrant. This collaboration between Cedar Keys Audubon and the Nature Coast Biological Station has documented saving more than 60 birds in the past year alone. The effort does rely on volunteers to help rescue and transport ailing birds. Your help is needed. Below is the training program description that will be offered. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Training workshop for volunteers interested in joining the Cedar Key Seabird Rescue program. Attendees are not required to volunteer for the program, but volunteers must attend a training before taking part in the program. Attendees will learn about the Cedar Key Seabird Rescue program, hear from a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and experienced program volunteers about best bird handling practices. Attendees will also learn how to access rescue gear in Cedar Key and learn how to rescue an injured pelican. This program primarily focuses on rescuing seabirds that have been tangled in fishing line, and the majority of birds rescued in this program are pelicans.
