4TH ANNUAL ART FESTIVAL IN SUWANNEE – MARCH 13, 2021

Suwannee Library Technical Center, part of Dixie County Public Library, will host its 2021 Lower Suwannee Art & Nature Festival on Saturday, March 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Glen Dyals Park, located outside the community of Suwannee (at the south end of Highway 349). Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the open air and fun.
Jane Connors, Suwannee Library manager, is excited about the upcoming festival. “Vendors who have seen events cancelled all last year due to the virus are looking forward to getting out with their art, crafts and food in our wide-open grounds. Visitors to the event can expect enthusiastic vendors with plenty to sell, as well as live music and great local food.”

“We encourage both returning and new vendors to contact us as soon as possible. Spaces tend to fill up fast as the festival date approaches,” said Connors. “Everyone else, mark your calendar now. You don’t want to miss this event!”
In addition to local artists, artisans, crafters, food vendors, non-profit booths, and music, there will be a guided paddling trip that afternoon led by Lars Anderson. The festival grounds are also adjacent to the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge with opportunities for birding, hiking, biking and nature watching.
Doran Pierce is the poster artist for the 2021 Lower Suwannee Art & Nature Festival. His artwork can be seen on festival posters and flyers and at The Estate House on Highway 19 in Fanning Springs (see photo).

Doran Pierce, poster artist for the March 13 festival, has been a mural painter all of his life. Born in Las Vegas, Nevada, he painted his first mural at age 12 for a local casino, then later for several movie and tv actors. After moving to Vancouver, Washington, his art turned to mountain and nature scenes. Painting for Jimmy Buffet in the Keys introduced him to Florida and he moved to Bradenton, close to his children and grandchildren. In 2018, Doran and his current wife, Connie, came to Fanning Springs and opened The Estate House on Highway 19. Doran continues to paint a variety of subjects from nautical and nature, to fantasies and whimsical in murals and smaller works. The cypress trees, alligators and birds of the Suwannee River area now are a welcome theme for him.
