MAURICE EMERSON HENDRIX, Jr.

Maurice Emerson Hendrix, Jr. 87, of Cedar Key, passed away May 12 at Haven Hospice, Chiefland, after suffering a stroke on May 7.

MAY 15 Maurice Emerson HendrixMaurice was born in Gainesville, Ga. to parents Maurice Emerson Hendrix, Sr. and Louise Elizabeth Braswell.  He moved to Daytona Beach, FL at an early age and attended local schools, graduating from Seabreeze High School. He received an AA from Seminole Community College.  Maurice served in the Naval Reserves from 1952-1960 as EN2 and was honorably discharged.  In 1972, Maurice married Janet Schwartz. They met where they worked, at Florida Power Corp. in Winter Park, where he was an air conditioning representative.  He was Florida Branch Manager for Lennox Industries and retired from The Trane Co. in 1999.  Maurice received numerous accolades and awards throughout his air conditioning sales career.  Among them was “Man of the Year”, presented by ACCA of Central Florida and the John A. Welbourn Award presented by FL A/C Contractors Assoc.

Maurice was a Life Member of ASHRAE, Air Conditioning Contractors of Central FL, Homebuilders Assoc. of Central FL, Energy Action Comm./Division State Energy Office.  He held a Florida Class A air conditioning Contractors License.  He was Catholic, a member of the Cedar Key Lions, Grand Lion Life Member and Melvin Jones Fellow.  He enjoyed traveling, river cruising in Europe, NASCAR, boating and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara Egan and brother, Robert Hendrix.

Maurice will be deeply missed by his wife, Jan, children Michael, Orlando, FL; Stephan (Rachel), Decatur, GA; Patrick, Eden, NC, and Christine Reilly, Laguna Niguel, CA.

Arrangements are being handled by Knauff Funeral Home, Chiefland. Visitation is Thursday, May 20, 5-7 PM followed by the Rosary.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM, Friday, May 21 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Chiefland. Interment to follow at the Cedar Key Cemetery.
