Hats off to the Ladies! Members of the Cedar Key Woman`s Club share in a "hard hat" ceremony at the opening of their new clubhouse. Shown, left to right, are Debbie Franks, Judy Duvall, Millie Bayha, Jan Hendrix,Marie Evans, Susan Roquemore and Betty Asbury. On April 24 the Woman's Club season wound down on a high note. Not only did they enjoy the first luncheon in their new clubhouse, but that's also the anniversary of the General Federation of Woman's Clubs (GFWC). The CK Woman's Club was formed in 1960 and joined the GFWC in 1967. Many attended the luncheon, including charter members Marie Johnson and Mary Ann Delaino. Honorary member Sue Riker was also present. As usual, lunch was delicious, but the new clubhouse atmosphere might have enhanced the flavor just a bit. Dessert was a birthday cake for GFWC. Guest speaker Erik Brogren shared his knowledge of the decedents in the Atsena Otie cemetery. Afterwards the ladies celebrated Federation Day with a reading and a hardhat ceremony honoring the WC members who worked tirelessly to make the new clubhouse a reality. The ladies were ecstatic to hear that an anonymous donor will provide both the remaining cabinets and a lighted storage closet. A most warm, sincere, and heartfelt thanks goes to the generous donor. Actually, the celebration got a head start at the last City Commission meeting. President, Jan Hendrix, read the proclamation, which Mayor Paul Oliver signed. The official grand opening of the new clubhouse is set for the Fall when the Woman's Club reconvenes. |
