Second in a series of three

The Cedar Key City Commission has two open seats that will be voted upon on Election Day, Tuesday, May 5, 2015.  In the interest of a more informed public, the Cedar Key News will provide two services to you, the reader.
One service is the Candidate Forum where you will be able to watch and join your fellow residents in asking the candidates pertinent questions regarding the city’s operation.  Mark your calendar and come to the Candidate Forum on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at 5pm, at the Cedar Key Library upstairs meeting room.
Another service is the candidates’ written responses to three questions which you may read here in the Cedar Key News. The third question and answers will be published on Friday 17, 2015.

Below you will find the answers to the second question:
How many city commission meetings and budget workshops have you attended
in the last year and what was your reason for attending or not attending?

Sue Colson, Seat 5 - Incumbent
Response to Question 2
Attended 54 meetings (commission and budget workshops), missed two.

John Blouse, Seat 5 - Challenger
Response to Question 2
Several City Commission meetings and two City budget workshop meetings, and I witnessed the need for others to get involved. My reason was that it was my understanding that the Commission was making decisions with not all the facts on the table or not talking with all of the stake holders, in order to make proper decisions that would do " the most good for the most people" and promptly. And that's one of the reasons I am running for office. It will be my goal to help make sure that when the City makes decisions it uses all of its resources to gather those facts to make the best possible decisions, with the public’s input, in mind.

Jamie Griffin, Seat 3
Response to Question 2
I have attended many commission meetings over the past 4 years. I am aware of the current issues facing the Commission and I’m familiar with finding solutions for the issues. I prepared the budget for the Town of Bronson for 6 years, so I am very familiar with budget preparation and execution.

Diana Topping, Seat 3
Response to Question 2
My husband and I have attended many meetings in the past. However the last meeting we attended, I was not impressed with a bit.  The commissioners were very mean and rude to each other. I feel as if the commissioners should be respectful to one another. That's how I was raised. Better decisions can be made without all the dramatics. I am not sorting out any one in particular. I would just like to see the meetings to be much more pleasant and refreshing to attend.
