(CHIEFLAND, Fla.) Dec. 9, 2015 — The College of Central Florida celebrated a groundbreaking for the CF Jack Wilkinson Levy Campus Dec. 9.

CF has received $6.3 million in state funding and private donations of more than $3.5 million toward the project, which will increase educational opportunities for Levy County. The site is being prepared for a standalone building, which could be open for classes as early as fall 2017.

Plans include a standalone building of more than 44,000 square feet and 292 student stations, five fully equipped multi-purpose classrooms, a large multi-discipline science lab, three state-of-the-art computer labs for college credit and corporate education courses, as well as faculty offices and adjunct space.

The building will also include a comprehensive student center with enrollment services, counseling and advising, financial aid, testing, and computer stations, a campus bookstore, student lounge and student life office, and a health and wellness area.

The community will also benefit from 3,000 square feet of exhibit and conference space that will accommodate 180 participants in single or dual events.

“This is a great day for College of Central Florida and Levy County,” said Dr. Jim Henningsen, CF president. “As we celebrate this milestone, we are one step closer to making the Levy Campus a reality.”

The CF District Board of Trustees first identified the need for a Levy Campus in 2004. Currently classes are held at the CF Levy Center, a storefront location at 114 Rodgers Blvd. in Chiefland.
