NEW CKPOTTERY 2019
NEW FEES FOR WATCHING SUNSETS
ON G STREET

April 1, 2018

Mayor Heath Davis, in conjunction with the management of the Faraway Inn, has announced the implementation of a “sunset fee” for those who gather at the bottom of G Street to gaze at the sun as it sinks daily in the western sky. “It’s one of our most popular attractions,” notes Davis. People come from long distances just to see this phenomenon. Why shouldn’t we make a small profit.” Longtime Cedar Key resident Ferl T. Kinchbik agrees: “Sunsets are just better here. I’ve seen them all over California, Maine, Texas- but there’s just something about a Cedar Key sunset. It massages the soul. And hells fire, they charge for massages, don’t they?” The fee scale will have a number of levels: $5.25 for the regular viewing but an extra dollar for every new color that graces the sky that evening. “If you get that purple effect that stretches out after the sun has disappeared, well, that’s gonna cost extra” said Councilwoman Nikki Rucker, who thinks the revenue could help fund a number of projects. “And” adds Rucker, “ we’re also rated one of the best places to star gaze in the summer, since we have so little artificial light sources. Maybe we can charge for that too. Twenty cents per star. Sky’s the limit.”
