The Bishop of Catholic Diocese of St. Augustine said Mass at St. Andrews Chapel in Cedar Key, Sunday, August 12. Parishioners and guests welcomed Bishop Filipe Estevez at the 3 pm. Mass that he conducted, and he blessed the chapel, named for Saint Andrew, patron saint of fishermen.
Assisting Bishop Estevez were Fr. Cesar Torres, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church, Chiefland, and Fr. Joe McDonnell, retired priest assigned to St. Andrews Chapel. Also assisting were two seminarians from Miami.
Bishop Estevez thanked all those who especially helped to make St. Andrews Chapel a reality in Cedar Key. He was happy to have a Catholic presence in Cedar Key, the western-most part of the Diocese, so we can work with others in the community to spread the Ecumenical work in the region.
A reception followed Mass and the blessing of the Chapel.
