Cedar Key Library

The public presentation of the students’ finalized University of Florida’s Dr. Franks Rooted in Resilience project will occur on May 14 at 5:30 pm at the Cedar Key Library. The project is a partnership between the Cedar Key School, the City of Cedar Key, the University of Florida, and the Cedar Key Historical Society & Museum.

Rooted in Resilience project is part of a larger research project led by the University of Florida’s Dr. Marty (Morris) Hylton of the College of Design, Construction and Planning. Hylton, also the Historic Preservation Program Director.

Aided by post-graduate fellow and architect Sujin Kim, have three-dimensionally laser photographed much of Cedar Key in hopes of creating an accurate, visual historical record for future use in case of calamity and for posterity.

The larger project is collecting 3-D digital data (via laser scanning) and updating descriptive information about buildings in Cedar Key’s historic district.

The project is also engaging the public around topics of historic preservation, natural hazards, projected sea level changes, and adaptation strategies for building and community resilience.”
