From 9 until `10:30 am on Wednesday, April 14, Cedar Key Community Gardeners accomplished many a feat at the care and direction of Tom Deverin.
In preparation for the upcoming Old Florida Festival of the Arts, they spruced up the Garden on all fronts. Colin and Linda Dale cleaned off the winding path throughout the length of the Garden, pulling weeds and removing errant mulch. Pat Sheridan and Frank Patillo raked, clipped, and lopped the growth beginning to interfere with the sidewalk. Joe Hand completed the irrigation system that continues to keep the Garden lush. Dan and Carol Wilcox tackled the overgrowth along the trellis on the west side of the Garden. Tom and Pat planted multiple rows of sunflowers near the tool “shed,” and Pat mulched the entire area to lessen weeds.
Anne Miller and Jen Webb cut the full bed of kale bunched it into family-sized portions, stored it on ice in coolers, and delivered it to the Cedar Key Food Pantry.
Not lost to Cedar Key entirely, former resident Libby Cagle took the pictures.
Hard to believe that so much work could be done so quickly, but it certainly is…with good purpose, good leadership, great workers, and superb company.
