DOCK STREET BRIDGE COMPLETION TIMELINE
June 21, 2021
Editor's Note:
At Tuesday’s June 15, Cedar Key Commission Meeting, the following information was offered by the city from the workers contracted by the Florida Department of Transportation to complete the bridge construction.
DOCK STREET BRIDGE
TIMELINE
The original project started in November of 2019 and was supposed to be a nine-month project.
A true timeline for the completion of the bridge is not possible. There are too many variables to take into consideration: for example, hurricanes, tornadoes, just plain bad weather, availability or workers, availability of supplies, sink holes and caverns, etc.
A timeline wish is December 31, 2021.
The project had to be reengineered due to the sink holes. What has been done is 10 concrete pilings and 5 metal pipe pilings (that are filled with concrete and just as strong as the concrete pilings) have been put in place. There are five concrete pilings left to place.
The pilings started out to be placed 65 feet deep, but each one is now placed 135 feet deep.
Before the pilings could be placed 700 yards of pressure grout has had to be placed into 40 different locations, 130 feet deep in a 3-phase project. The first two phases have been finished and the third phase is ready to be started. The second phase was finisedh on June 9, 2021.
There have been 70 yards of flowable fill poured under the crane to stabilize it and make it safe while the work is being done.
One delay came from the request for 1.5 million more in funding due to the sink hole situation.
The south end of the bridge is closed to completion.
The completion timeline does not include the removal of the old bridge.
