Citizen Input Needed

Editorial

Monday, November 3, at 6:30 PM the Levy County Planning Agency will make a recommendation that is important to the Cedar Key community. The recommendation will be for or against changes in the Levy County Comprehensive Plan. These changes would allow construction of at least one hundred and twenty houses at the Cedar Key city limits.

THE HEARING WILL BEGIN AT 7:30 p.m.

The Comp Plan is a plan for development with all community interests at its core. The Comp Plan was written in an orderly and open way, with input from every interested citizen. The importance of the Comp Plan is reflected by its review by the School Board, wildlife and water management, and Florida Department of Community Affairs.

Revision of the Comp Plan is done every ten years. In the interim, the integrity of the Comp Plan depends on recommendations from the Local Planning Agency Board.

Levy County is being asked to allow a major increase in housing density in the Costal Zone. It is also being asked to allow creation of a Community Development District and a sewage treatment plant that would encourage housing development along Highway 24. Either change would impact the character and environment of Cedar Key.

The citizens of Cedar Key must attend the Local Planning Agency Board meeting in Bronson November 3 if they want to protect the integrity of the Levy County Comprehensive Plan.
