Sheriff`s Corner

Levy Co. Sheriff`s Office

sheriff star

Hello and welcome to this week's Sheriff's Corner. The first part of this Corner will be used to notify you that as of May 28th, 2004 we have been under a Voluntary Burn Ban. This, because our conditions are considered to be extremely dry. In answer, the Levy County Board of County Commissioners along with the Florida Division of Forestry and Levy County Emergency Management are making this request. Residents are asked to refrain from outdoor burning or any other lawful outdoor burning such as lawn debris or trash burning until these dry conditions change for the better. If you have any questions contact the Levy County Emergency Management at 352-486-5213 during normal business hours or the Levy County Sheriff's Office after hours.

As you know this past weekend was very windy and if a fire had started, it would have been extremely difficult to get under control. Please help us with this situation. Most of you guys out there have seen grass fires. I remember some that spread so fast that even fire equipment became trapped. During this time of year we at the Sheriff's Office maintain a careful watch and are prepared to assist with any fire outbreak.

Lastly, when fires start wrongfully, either by actual arson or through negligence, there is the possibility that those responsible will be charged. So during this voluntary ban, please help us out.

Until next week, take care and be careful. If you have any questions give me or our office a call.
