Getting Rid of Old Computers

Letters to the Editor

Editor: Getting rid of old computer equipment and electronic items has just become simple, because of a new partnership between two of America`s leading electronics businesses. Office Depot and Hewlett-Packard have teamed up to accept used equipment in a free, no hassle way. Consumers can drop off such items as computers, fax machines, cell phones, televisions and other electronics to any Office Depot location.

The only restriction is that only ONE item may be dropped off per person per day. However, a complete computer system (tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.) is defined as ONE item. Simply stated, you could drop off your old computer system one day, and the next day you could drop off a cell phone. Monitors or televisions with cracked or broken screens will not be accepted.

The companies decided to offer this service to prevent unwanted computer and electronic equipment from being dumped in local landfills, creating problems due to the sheer volume of items and potentially dangerous materials contained in them.

In Gainesville, Office Depot stores are located at 1015 NW 13th St. and 6861 W Newberry Rd.
