Sheriff`s Corner

Levy Co. Sheriff`s Office

Hello everyone and welcome to this weeks Sheriff's Corner! Our Investigators are still investigating Jacob Langworthy's murder. We also had an opportunity to talk to the students at the Williston High School. We were able to give the students and some of the faculty some answers to their questions. We certainly hope that we helped but we know that it will take time for recovery. The students at WHS were caring and concerned for the family and friends of Jacob. Some came up to meet and talk to us further after the actual session. Our best wishes to go out to the family and friends of Jacob and everyone at Williston High School.

I'd like to speak briefly about a situation that pops up from time to time. That is, a salesman that comes to you claiming to be selling something, like ads, to help support a good cause- sports, teams, scouting ECT. Some of these salespeople find clever ways to barley stay "legal" while staying close to community support for schools and/or charities. The calendar scheme is common and typical. Sometimes the teams or charities don't even know there is a calendar sale in progress. They also don't recover any of the profits. Businesses and others give money believing the money will go to the team or charity.

Another group is door-to-door magazine salespeople. Some of these people are young adults claiming to be putting themselves through college. Some of the salesmen are aggressive, persistent, and skillful. People find themselves buying magazines for three times the cost but they do it anyway thinking they are supporting a good cause.

Bottom line-Don't part with any of your hard earned money until you know exactly where it is going. Ask all of the questions. Lastly, don't make a decision until you have the answers. You probably won't get all of the answers during a telephone call or a visit at your front door. Please be careful. Take care.
