CRA Directorship Offer Accepted

Jim Hoy

Cedar Key is close to having a Community Redevelopment Agency Director in place. According to Mayor/Commissioner Paul Oliver, Jackie Gorman, of Dunnellon, accepted the City's offer to become director of Community Redevelopment. Contract negotiations may be finished by September 9.

Ms. Gorman has been employed in various aspects of city planning and development since 1977, for twenty years in Ocala and for the past five years in Dunnellon. She is currently the CRA Manager and also serves as the Director of Planning. Her current responsibilities include administration of a $13,000,000 Small Community Sewer Grant and planning Dunnellon's Historic Village District and Commercial Waterfront District.

The search for a CRA Director began in March. The Cedar Key Commission received recommendations of three highly qualified candidates from an advisory committee. One of the candidates withdrew prior to face-to-face interviews with the Commission on August 31. Another candidate withdrew immediately after his interview. At a special meeting of the Commission the public was invited to question Ms. Gorman. Bob Treat spoke in her favor, saying that she had been very helpful when he asked for information regarding development of historic neighborhood standards.

In a telephone interview with Cedar Key News Ms. Gorman said that she is thrilled to be coming to Cedar Key and will be here during the Labor Day weekend.
