Doris Corene Brogren 1936-2007

Obituary

Doris Corene (Birch) Brogren,born September 8, 1936 in French Lick, IN and died June 1, 2007 in Gainesville, FL. Husband Erik; daughter Kemberly (Robert) Johnson;
grandson Noah and granddaughter Hannah; stepsons Sven (Sandi) and Lars (Betty).

Loving wife and mother, and adoring grandmother, Doris lived a full and adventurouslife. She enjoyed taking risks and asking "What if?" as well as supporting those less fortunate. Seeing things not always seen by others she eJjoyed following the paths less traveled. This was also true in the people she held closest to her. An only child, Doris was close to her extended family members often taking the role of sister, aunt, mother,and substitute grandmother.

A "Teachers` Teacher," Doris began teaching English at Southport High School in Indianapolis, IN and then at the Indiana University Laboratory School in Bloomington,IN. In 1968 she moved to Elmhurst, IL and began teaching at York Community High School, where she taught for twenty years. During her tenure at York she developed a Unified Studies course for juniors which combined American Literature and History. This course was to educate the students on the importance of the two topics and, more importantly, how they were interwoven which made the topics more interesting and fun.

She will be missed by many cousins and other relatives as well as friends and former students that kept in touch with her through the years.

A memorial service will be held in the future. Gifts in her name may be made to the Pioneer Center for Human Services, 4001 Dayton Street, McHemy, IT..60050 or to Doctors Without Borders USA, P.O. Box 5030, Hagerstown,MD 21741-5030.
