Obituary

Henry Claude Blankenship, Jr. (aka "Junior") died on March 10, 2010 at The Court at Decatur, a retirement community. He was 86 years old.

Mr. Blankenship served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1942 until 1946. He was a veteran auto mechanic who owned and operated "Blankenship Auto Service" in Atlanta, GA for four decades. He moved to Cedar Key in the 1980s.

Once an avid fisherman, Mr. Blankenship spent much of his retirement enjoying his Harley-Davisdon Electra Glide Classic motorcycle, and he rode it regularly until well into his 82nd year. "Junior" enjoyed giving motorcycle rides to the local school kids around Cedar Key, and he volunteered for many years at the Cedar Key Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by Frances Roberts of Georgia, to whom he was married in 1948.

He is survived by his siblings Henrietta Lunsford, St. James City, FL; Mack Blankenship, Commerce, FA; George Blankenship, Sharpsburg, GA; Charles Blankenship, Tampa, FL; and Brenda Wood, Mobile, AL; and his children, Rebecca Blankenship, Norcross, GA; Susan McClendon, St. George Island, FL; Claudia Blankenship, Monroe, GA; Frances Lamon, Decatur, GA; and Robert Blankenship, Snellville, GA.

Graveside services were held march 17 at Crest Lawn Memorial Park, Atlanta, GA. Mr. Blankenship`s children request that charitable contributions in his memory by made to charities for children or animals. Condolences may be sent or viewed at http://www.wagesfuneralhome.com.
