An exciting new Cedar Key business endeavor launches early this summer that will lure paddlers, fishers, birders, wildlife photographers, and wilderness adventurers from around the world. Three area businesses combine forces to produce this adventure: Dan May Lodge; Kayak Cedar Keys; and Rod Hunt, Wilderness Guide.

The Dan May Island and lodge rest approximately 6 miles south of the town of Suwannee, and 8 miles north of our Cedar Key, and are only accessible by paddle or power boat. In the words of Tom Liebert, owner of Kayak Cedar Keys:

"Hidden deep in the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge at the foot of the Suwannee River and Gulf of Mexico, one can easily miss the confluence of the Dan May Creek and Dan May Island. On this beautiful and privately owned island sits an almost century old lodge that has been authentically restored... quickly becoming the center piece for paddlers seeking a unique getaway, miles from even small towns and rural development.... This area is a paddling paradise, as well as a birder`s dream, and wildlife photographers are quickly transported back in time in the natural settings throughout these hidden coastlines."

What more could those wanting to get away from it all ask for? Folks who enjoy fishing, can kayak fish, and then come back to grill their catch over an open fire. And, yes, they can shower off, too ... maybe just before relaxing into the evening, listening to and watching the wildlife as the sun goes down.

While Dan May Lodge will offer the lodging and Kayak Cedar Keys will offer the kayaks, the knowledgeable and experienced Wilderness Guide Rod Hunt will offer the on the water transportation and kayak shuttle service.

A package deal should be available by late May. To find out more about this thrilling new adventure, one may look at or contact any of the following:
