Fishing Report

I had three trips last week out around the Cedar Key area, and it was hot: both fishing and temperature. But with my shade top up and a little breeze, it wasn`t too bad.

On July 24th, Dan Ennis and his son Dan came over from the Jacksonville area and asked me to take them fishing. I found out it was the senior Dan`s birthday, so I took him out for a Big Mac. That`s him holding up his 22.5-inch big mackerel.
Imagine, three Dan`s out fishing on the same boat, all three Irishmen; what a coincidence.

On the 29th and 30th, I took out the San Juan family. Father David and Mom Fionnuala and their really cool kids, Maria, Michael, Katherine and Walker. The first day we caught a few "keeper" trout within the 15 to 20-inch legal keeping slot allowed. They also got a nice plump pompano.

We had to hunt down each trout we caught. They weren`t all at one spot. They are in the shallow 3 to 5 foot grassy areas. That`s Michael holding up his pompano and his Mom showing off her first ever speckled trout.

When the family showed up the next morning to go out again, each said how delicious the fresh trout and pompano had been and how they ate every last bit. That Saturday we hunted down five trout and another mackerel that I filletted for the family to eat that night at their rented condo at Old Fenimore Mill here in Cedar Key. That`s 13-year old Maria holding up her mackerel.

As an end note I`d like to remind folks to have a little patience when loading and trailering your boats at the city ramp here in Cedar Key, and to know we have wheelchair access dock spaces and to give those spaces some room so those folks can maneuver around easily and get in and out of their boats safely.
