Man Threatens Suicide

Jim Hoy

Late Monday afternoon Cedar Key Police relieved a 911 call from a man threatening suicide and requesting police assistance. Upon arrival at 882 Sixth Street, police officers were approached by Charles M. Sparrow, 43.

According to Sgt. Vernon Hammock, Sparrow, who was partially dressed, agreed to enter his house for clothing prior to being given help. As he was accompanied by Chief Dan Swogger and Sgt. Hammock, Sparrow became violent and attacked both officers. Sparrow was sprayed with pepper spray and subdued. He was then charged with battery of a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence, both felonies. Sparrow was transported to Levy County Jail.
