DOCK STREET TEMPORARY BRIDGE
OPENED BY DAVIS, COLSON
May 21, 2020

Cedar Key’s C Street temporary bridge opened Thursday, May 21, 2020. First to brave this new bridge were Cedar Key mayor and vice-mayor, Heath Davis and Sue Colson. Poised and ready at 8:15 am with Colson at the golf cart’s wheel, the two ushered in a whole new Gulf panorama and the start of tearing down the old bridge.

The entry to the new bridge is broad and easy to drive it parallels the old C Street Bridge. Then the temporary bridge takes the driver onto C Street (a thirty-degree curve) to the right, just in front of the Pier. Finally, the driver makes a left turn (of ninety degrees) onto Dock Street. Best to be very alert and at drive at no more than ten miles an hour while negotiating this curve.

A comfortable walkway accompanies the temporary bridge on the east side. On Friday, the day after the opening, Florida Department of Transportation workers had already begun working to remove the old bridge. First came the scraping off its concrete surfacing.
