CITY OF CEDAR KEY PONDERS PERSONNEL CHANGES
September 22, 2021
Four significant changes in personnel were announced at the Cedar Key City Commission Meeting last evening, September 21, 2021.

POLICE DEPARTMENT
Police Chief Virgil Sandlin announced his May 2022 retirement last month. The city plans to conduct a search for a new police chief. Commissioner Jim Wortham encouraged the city to cast a “wide net,” saying that perhaps Cedar Key might look attractive to other retiring law enforcement individuals.
Cedar Key Officer Cody Wetherington has been promoted to lieutenant. Chief Sandlin plans to mentor him in administrative matters to ease the transition.

CITY CLERK’S OFFICE
City Clerk Carol Walker is no longer employed by the city. City personnel will conduct a search for this position as well.

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
The director position of the Public Works Department has been empty for some time. Mayor Davis announced that he has invited long-time Cedar Key resident Jamie McCain to fill the position. McCain has accepted and will begin his duties in several weeks.

FIRE DEPARTMENT
A new full-time fire department position has been budgeted. Fire Chief and Emergency Operations Manager Robert Robinson will conduct a search and bring his conclusions to the commission.

The newly formed Human Resources committee, consisting of Mayor Davis and Chief Virgil Sandlin, will add Commissioner Nancy Sera to its ranks.
