NEW CKPOTTERY 2019

CHIEF JENKINS 7363xe3
Commissioners Wortham, Rosenthal, Sera, Police Chief Edwin Jenkins,
Mayor Davis, Vice-Mayor Colson, City Clerk Ayres

Cedar Key Commissioners put in a difficult day today sorting out qualifications as they interviewed the three finalists for chief of police for Cedar Key. At 10 am, they interviewed Jeffrey Pasternack; at 1 pm Timothy Verh; at 2 pm Edwin Jenkins.

Commissioners pondered the interview results from approximately 3 until 5 pm, while applicants waited elsewhere and while residents attended the open commission meeting. In attendance throughout the process were Doug and Sandy Lindhout.

Prominent comments throughout the commissioners’ deliberations focused on how closely they rated the three finalists. All were consummately qualified. Decisions were difficult. All finalists had varied strengths. Judging the best fit for Cedar Key seemed no simple task.

At approximately 5 pm, commissioners decided on Interim Cedar Key Police Chief Edwin Jenkins as the new Cedar Key Police Chief.
Mr. Pasternack and Mr. Verh graciously returned to the meeting room and thanked the commission and audience for their time and consideration.

Mayor Davis welcomed Jenkins. He specifically thanked Cedar Key Lieutenant Cody Weatherington for his constancy to the city through this transition. Chief Jenkins reported how critical Wetherington has been and continues to be in all aspects of the work and in interviewing additional police officers to the force.

Those in the room, which had become more packed, shook hands with Chief Jenkins, welcoming him even further into the city.
