CEDAR KEY TO RECEIVE SUPPORT FOR THE TREES FROM US FORESTRY SERVICE2023 October 25
The City of Cedar Key was awarded the designation of “Tree City USA” in 2022. The City fulfilled the requirements of the Standards required by the National Arbor Day Foundation to receive this designation.
During Hurricane Idalia, the US Forestry Service reached out to advise that once the storm passed, they might have assistance available. Shortly thereafter, Todd Little, the Forestry representative, had a virtual meeting with Commissioner Sue Colson to discuss implementing the US Forestry Strike Team.
This team of arborists travels to areas impacted by natural disasters to assess damage. The second part of the assessment is to provide specific care recommendations. The targeted areas will be Right of Way and Heritage Trees. The Strike Team is currently scheduled to be in Cedar Key next spring during bud and bloom.
The City of Cedar Key is grateful for the assistance and efforts of the US Forestry Service.
