CEDAR KEY WATER & SEWER DISTRICT
BOARD MET 13 JULY 2026

The Cedar Key Water and Sewer District members met on Monday, July 13, at their offices on Third Street at 5 pm. All commissioners were present: Chair Mike Borelli, Treasurer Leslie Sturmer, Joe Hand, Johnathan Ferguson, and Sue Colson.

Among the concerns and decisions made were the following.
• Currently the district has a one-time wastewater adjustment policy of 36 months. The board is considering a 12-month policy in its stead. General Manager John Rittenhouse is conducting further research on past adjustment requests.
• The Nextel contract, governing the operation of the communications tower located at the junction of State Road 24 and County Road 347, still lies with the City of Cedar Key attorney, who is awaiting an opinion from the Federal Communications Commission. Particularly now, during hurricane season, the district is concerned that currently the tower service does not include FirstNet, the system that allows first responders to communicate with one another directly.
• The 2025 annual audit from James Moore and Company is late, through no fault of the district, and expected soon.
• Generally, should the governors’ tax cut ballot measure pass, the district expects a $25,000 diminishment in funds in the 2026 fiscal year budget and a $50,000 cut in 2027.

IN ATTENDANCE:
CKWSD staff in attendance included Alicia Johns and Superintendent Gabe Doty. Audience members included Doris Hellerman, Steve Rosenthal, Mandy and Frank Offerle.
