The 2024 Cedar Key Seafood Festival will kick off on Saturday October 19th. At 10 AM that morning golf carts and clam boats and cars with trailers and revelers in costumes will start to line up on G Street for one of the Festival's perennial favorites - the Parade down First Street and Dock Street.
As you know, Cedar Key News was nice enough to publish this year's Parade Registration Form. What you may not know is that registration is only necessary if you wish to compete for a cash prize. If, on the other hand, you wake up that Saturday morning and decide you want to show your Cedar Key pride to the thousands of people who visit us that weekend and have some fun, go ahead and drive your golf cart down to G Street and line up.
I spoke with our City Historian, Anna Hodges, several months ago and it is my understanding that this type of unregimented last-minute spontaneity was enjoyed by all of the residents of Cedar Key, much like the CKS Homecoming Parade still is celebrated.
As the time gets closer I will send out reminders about the Parade. Its theme is "Cedar Key Strong".
We picked that theme because of Idalia and Debby. We had no idea another storm would be coming our way. As of this writing the storm doesn't even have a name yet. I know we all pray the storm doesn't do us any severe damage. So until it's done, please be strong, be smart, be resilient, and most of all, be safe.
