COMMUNITY GARDEN RESURRECTING…WITH SERIOUS LEADERRSHIP, MUCH HELP
2024 October

One of the sad results of Hurricane Helene was the Gulf water encroachment approximately three quarters of the full Cedar Key Community Garden property. After nearly ten years of producing great greens for the community, now the Garden’s salt-saturated beds needed some help.

To the rescue rode Cedar Key Community Garden Leader Tom Deverin, marshalling troops to return the Garden that was.

On Saturday, October 12, Tom, with the irreplaceable help of Royce and Allison Nelson and their trusty Sid Steer, emptied all twenty-six beds, tipping them over and hauling them to the rear of the Garden. After four hours of work, the Garden had a new soil floor.

Later that week, leveling out the Skid Steer tracks was the work of resident Jeff Wigston and his leveling machine. After hours of work, he left the Garden surface more even, readying it for the replacement and leveling of the beds.

The magnificent management, scheduling, and overseeing of this initial resurrecting of the Garden is the work of Tom Deverin. Royce, Allison, and Jeff are generous powerhouses themselves.
