In February Peg Hall arranged for Barzella Papa and Lesley Banis, staff of the Community Foundation of North Central Florida, to visit Cedar Key and to meet with local non-profit leaders. As president of the Friends of the Cedar Key Library I was given the opportunity to speak with Barzella and Lesley about our library. Jamie McCain, director of public works for Cedar Key, was able to open the library so we could show the Foundation staff our beautiful space and our current needs.
Later, we learned that the library was missing about 50 chairs, needed for gatherings in the upstairs meeting room. I called Lesley and asked if the Foundation would consider a grant request to purchase chairs. Soon, I received the news that the Foundation graciously provided money for the chairs.
Then, in March, Jamie located additional chairs for the library events. I contacted Lesley and received permission to use the grant for other needs in the library. We plan to purchase computer stations for the community-access computers as well as a counter for the community information center.
The Friends of the Cedar Key Library are very grateful for Peg's effort on our behalf and the Community Foundation of North Central Florida's interest in extending their outreach to Cedar Key.
