CKWSD MET 26 AUGUST
26 August 2024

The Cedar Key Water Sewer District met on Monday, August 26. 2024,
at 5 pm, at the district’s office on Third Street.

INSURANCE
Egis Insurance, CKWSD’s insurer, has plans to cancel or renegotiate a new contract with the district. From approximately $71,000 this year, the next contract is estimated to be nearly $100,000. General Manager John Rittenhouse is investigating alternative sources of insurance and is communicating with Egis.

MILLAGE
Commissioners are considering millage rates between, 1.6 and 1.7177. The increase from 1.6 to 1.7177 mils reflects an additional $30,000. The Tentative Budget Hearing is scheduled for September 9, 2024.

HURRICANE DEBBY
Both commissioners and the audience complimented the Cedar Key Water and Sewer District staff or the efficient, effective job of emergency management during Hurricane Debby. Communication with the county, the City of Cedar Key, City Emergency Operations Manager Robinson, and the public was efficient and timely. CKWSD staff worked many 18-hour days, reported General Manager Rittenhouse. Rittenhouse thanked the group and said he would certainly inform staff.

FLORIDA COMMERCE PLAN
Special District Boards are required by the Florida legislature to be part of the Special District Accountability Program: Among the new requirements is the completion of the Florida Commerce Plan, this year due September 30. The plan requires the CKWSD to articulate its goals, subgoals, attendant timelines, and attendant statements of completion.

LIFT STATION WORK
The initial lift station work contract, Lift Station Rehabilitation Project I, with Baskerville-Donavan is commencing. Five lift stations should be refurbished in 265-days. A public meeting will be planned to inform the community about the process.
Lift Station Rehabilitation Phase II funding is in place in the Florida Commerce coffers and available to the district when the bid process for Phase II is complete.
