Drink Up! Our water is now safe to consume.

Ada Lang

The Cedar Key Water & Sewer District announced that it was given approval from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to allow human consumption of the District`s water supply, at 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012.

It is once again safe to drink the water and the announcement came a day ahead of schedule. CKWSD chairman David Beach hoped to lift the ban on Thursday, at the earliest.

The new reverse osmosis units are manually on-line. During the next week the final commissioning, training, testing and adjusting of the equipment will take place. While the water is safe to drink, the impact of the new units will not be fully appreciated until the latter part of next week. By then, there should be a noticeable improvement in the quality of the water.

The CKWSD also announced that the distribution of drinking water is discontinued as of today and they thanked everyone for their patience throughout this emergency. You can find more information at ckwater.org.
