Volunteers Deck the Halls of the Lighthouse

Volunteers Deck the Halls of the Lighthouse

Pam Darty

With the holidays right around the corner, volunteers and staff from the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge decorated the lighthouse for the two free Holiday Light(house) open house events, December 22 from 9:00am - 1:00pm, and again December 29, noon - 4:00pm.

Refuge staff, members of Cedar Key Historical Society, and Chiefland Middle School student, Hunter Barrand decorated the light station with greenery, bows and bells to ring-in the old time Christmas. Barrand, having made superlative grades was exempt from school testing, so he took the boat ride out to Seahorse Key carrying wreaths and a Christmas tree with him.

The all natural pine boughs and bows will make for picturesque photos, so don`t forget your camera in order to take home memories of a Gulf coast Christmas. For more information call 352/493-0238
