Cedar Key Arts Center

Celebrated Fiber Artist to Present Classes at Cedar Key Art Center. Fiber Artist Victoria Sowers will present a series of day-long weaving classes at Cedar Key Arts Center beginning Jan. 22. Ms. Sowers is renowned for her work as an Artist-in-Residence throughout the Southeast including extensive work in Hillsborough County at Moffitt Cancer Center, MacDill Air Force Base schools and the Tampa city government offices.
Ms. Sowers commissioned works can be found in homes, schools, hospitals and most recently in Archangel Saint Rafael Catholic Church in Raleigh, NC. In 2008 United Arts of Raleigh, NC selected Ms. Sowers as Artist-in-Residence of the Year.

The focus of Ms. Sowers work at the Art Center will be the creation of small personal weavings by class members weaving on lap looms to construct pocket books, pillows and wall hangings. Simultaneously class members will have an opportunity to weave items of a personal sentimental value into a large tapestry called a Fabric Time Capsule which will remain at the Art Center on permanent display. This tapestry will be woven on a 300 year old Colonial barn loom. Each member of the class will sit at the loom and receive instruction on its basic operation and how it might have been used in Colonial times.
Further information about class times and costs can be obtained at cedarkeyartscenter.org/workshops
