MICROBURST IN CEDAR KEY - IMMEDIATE CLEAN UP

MICROBURST IN CEDAR KEY - IMMEDIATE CLEAN UP

by CKN Staff Reporter

At 7:30AM on Wednesday morning, a microburst hit parts of Cedar Key, leaving some scrambling but no one hurt. Cedar Key Fire Chief and Emergency Operations Manager Robert Robinson, having consulted with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and other emergency agencies, reported that the microburst was not rotational in nature and contained winds clocked at 91 miles per hour. Robinson reported that various media telephoned him asking about damages; he assured them that the City of Cedar Key was fully operational.

Among the damages about town were: downed trees, some sagging Dock Street power lines, a spark-shooting Dock Street transformer, fallen branches causing car damage, damaged roofs, and torn Bimini boat tops.

Well before ten o`clock, the City of Cedar Key Public Works Department, under the direction of Police Chief Virgil Sandlin, had the streets cleared of debris. Quickly thereafter neat stacks of debris were piled on the roadside and whisked away by Waste Pro trucks.
