First Annual Cedar Key Pirate Invasion Weekend

During the weekend of September 13-15, 2013 the Cedar Key Pirates, local businesses, civic, and non-profit groups are teaming up with pirate crews from all over to turn Cedar Key into a family and pirate-friendly destination. Pirate groups from Fernandina Beach, St. Augustine, Tampa, Central Florida, Satellite Beach, and Largo have already begun making plans to answer the call to "Parley" with Cedar Key Pirates. One pirate group that travels all over the state in RVs or aboard their coastal trawlers has inquired about RV lots or anchorage. Among the "pirate" community they have begun to answer the call. We asked for their support to help local non-profit groups raise much needed cash and the Cedar Key Pirates in Paradise to start a scholarship fund for deserving Cedar Key High School students. We told them that our businesses would also appreciate them coming in a historically slow time of the year and would show their appreciation for their patronage.

In order to make this all come together it will require participation, cooperation, and coordination from a whole bunch of folks and we`ll need lots of help pulling it off. Many local businesses that are typically competing for the visitor`s dollar have agreed to work together and sponsor events that will be pleasing to our pirate friends and others visiting that weekend. The Faraway Inn will be having a Best Pirate Pet Contest to pick the best dressed, largest, best trained pirate pets. The Dock Street businesses will host Best Dressed Pirate and Wench contests. There will even be a Largest Crew participating category. The downtown area will host guided walking tours, reading events at the Library, a Grand Treasure Hunt for adults and families, and even one for the younger kids. There will also be a "Thieves` Market" for local craftspeople and artisans to sell their wares. Tour boats at the marina are giving special tours and rates just for pirates.

Mark your calendars for September 13-15, 2013. Plan to get involved in this fun worthwhile event. We need folks to help with the treasure hunts, to sew pirate garb, give tours, read books to kids, and be pirate hosts and hostesses to welcome folks to town. There will be many opportunities for everyone to be a part of the First Annual Cedar Key Pirate Invasion Weekend.
