Today is Hurricane Awareness - a Drive-By Event

Today is Hurricane Awareness - a Drive-By Event

ANNOUNCEMENT

TODAY IS HURRICANE AWARENESS DAY AND THE HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP-OFF

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE FIRE STATION

12 NOON TO 6 P.M.
HURRICANE DRIVE-BY

Y`ALL COME BY!!!

The event was postponed due to bad weather, but all city and county emergency departments will be out today to inform citizens about the necessity of preparing for the event of a hurricane or other disaster.

City-wide emergency alarms will be sounded at noon today to
begin the event! In addition, in recognition of Hurricane Preparation
Day, red and black reminder balloons will be placed on all the totems
located around the island, which were recently installed to measure
rising water levels.

Again this year, representatives from the Levy County Health
Department, Levy County Emergency Management, American Red Cross, Levy
County Animal Control, Nature Coast Transport, and Levy County
Ambulance Paramedics will each have a booth with valuable information
regarding services available to our community prior to, during and
following a significant storm event this year.

Our Fire Department and Police Department will again both have
important booths during the Hurricane Preparation Day. You can sign up
in advance for valuable programs, such as our P.I.E.R. program, and the
life-saving Vial of L.I.F.E program (Lifesaving Information For
Emergencies). If you are on any medications, or have specific health
situations which emergency personnel should know about, the Vial of
L.I.F.E. program could absolutely be the difference between life and
death in an emergency situation!

Another valuable service available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 2 is
the free hazardous waste collection service provided by Clean Harbors
Environmental, Inc. They will be collecting numerous household
hazardous wastes, such as oil based paints, stains, thinners, solvents,
varnishes, adhesives, glues, resins, kerosine, gasoline, engine
degreaser, brake fluid, transmission fluid, poisons, insecticides, weed
killers, wood preservatives, hobby/artist supplies, photo chemicals,
chemistry sets, cleaners, spot removers, swimming pool chemicals, dry
cell batteries, aerosol cans, pesticides, nicad batteries, hearing aid
batteries, used motor oil, propane tanks, tires, and electronics. Drop
these off at their booth in the Marina parking lot, across from the
Fire Department!

No matter how many "hurricanes" you believe you have weathered, please
stop by and utilize these great services. We can`t be too prepared!
Hot dogs and Lemonade will be served free while they last--first come,
first served!
