ANNOUNCEMENT

STATE PARK TO KICK OFF PRESCRIBED FIRE AWARNESS WEEK
-Federal, state and local agencies join for a public awareness event-

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection`s (DEP) Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve and Waccasassa Bay Preserve State Park will host a special event to kick off Prescribed Fire Awareness Week on Saturday, February 27, 2010, in the parking area adjacent to the fire station in downtown Cedar Key.

DEP`s Florida Park Service and the Office of Greenways and Trails will be joined by Cedar Key Volunteer Fire Department, Rosewood Volunteer Fire Department, Division of Forestry, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge for this event that will include displays, demonstrations of equipment and activities for children. Informational material and exhibits will inform the public about Florida`s fire dependent communities and the way in which prescribed fire is used to manage those communities.

Refreshments will be offered by Cedar Key Museum State Park and St. Clair Whitman Citizen Support Organization. For more information, call (352) 543-5567. If you require assistance in order to participate in this event, please inform park staff prior to the event.
