Special Note: Prescription Drugs May Be Dropped Off at Hazardous Waste Event

ANNOUNCEMENT

Cedar Key`s Wednesday, May 25th, hurricane preparedness/household hazardous waste day was announced as a "Good News" item at the May 17 City Commission meeting, with a correction noted by Commissioner Sue Colson. Although the Household Hazardous Waste Day flyer includes prescription medicines on its list of what NOT to bring, the City IS making provisions to accept prescription medicines for disposal.

Commissioner Colson pointed out that as we`ve learned it`s no longer advisable to flush surplus or out-of-date prescription drugs down the toilet, many households are uncertain how to dispose of prescription drugs. With the growth in abuse of prescription drugs, medications have become a target of burglaries; thus, the City WILL accept prescription drugs for disposal on Wednesday (10 AM to 2 PM).
