Come celebrate Billie Carlton’s retirement and Cedar Key Marine Lab Open House on December 2nd

Leslie Sturmer

The Senator George G. Kirkpatrick Marine Lab (the big blue building near the #4 channel bridge) is a community resource facility with representatives from the following state agencies and institutions: Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Fish and Wildlife Research Institute; Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Aquaculture and Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement; and the University of Florida IFAS Shellfish Aquaculture Extension Program. The Marine Lab is hosting an Open House on Friday, December 2 from 1 to 3 pm. The community and visitors are invited to learn more about the research, monitoring efforts and other educational activities being conducted at this facility.

In addition, the lab will be celebrating Billie Carlton`s retirement! After 15 years and 8 months of dedicated service (April 8, 1996 - November 30, 2011), Billie is retiring. As the lab`s administrative assistant, Billie has been the heart of the facility since its opening. She has consistently shown an enthusiasm to do her job well and has always gone above and beyond her normal duties to give assistance or information to visitors as well as riding herd on a mixed group of scientists and researchers. She is the first face you see as you enter the building, facilitating conferences, lab tours, and meetings. Billie has done so much for the lab and community, and her support should be applauded. So please join us for cake and a ceremony starting at 2:30 pm at the Marine Lab to celebrate her career and show our appreciation for her efforts. For more information, contact Darin Topping, lab administrator, at 352.543.9219, extension 204.

Come celebrate Billie Carlton’s retirement on December 2nd at the Marine Lab.
