Life of a Light Keeper

Life of a Light Keeper

ANNOUNCEMENT

The Cedar Key Historical Society will kick off the 2012 Monthly Coffee Program Series on Thursday, January 19, 10 a.m., at the Cedar Key Community Center, Sixth and F Streets, Cedar Key.

The January speaker will be Mrs. Catharine Hobday, one of the assistant light
keepers who served at the Cedar Keys Light Station on Seahorse Key from 1873 until 1879. Mrs. Hobday, portrayed by Toni Collins, will entertain the audience with highlights of what early service in the U.S. Lighthouse Service was like for the lighthouse employees.

The Historical Society will have Collins` book, "CEDAR KEYS LIGHT STATION"
on sale and the author will be happy to sign copies. If you have already purchased a copy of the book and would like it signed, bring your book with you to the coffee for the author to sign. The hardback history of this little known national treasure which sits at Cedar Key`s back door was published last October. The volume also can be purchased at the Cedar Key Historical Society Museum located on the corner of 2nd and D Streets.

The February program will feature Confederate Captain John Chambers of the
Gulf Coast Rangers. Former Levy County Superintendent of Schools, Will Irby of Chiefland, will delight the audience with his portrayal of this controversial figure.

Mark you calendar for Thursday, February 16, 10 a.m. at the Cedar Key Community Center.
