FREE Fun and a Hayride

FREE Fun and a Hayride

Pam Darty

Last Saturday kids who love the outdoors joined the Refuge Ranger for Discovery Day Camp at the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge. Local children as well as visitors from Orlando joined in the free fun.

Day Camp kids: Megan and Annie McCain of Cedar Key along with Brett Ford, Myna, and Brianna Sandland from Orlando with Ranger Pam while hiking the River Trail.

With Refuge cameras, the kids hiked the River Trail and took photos to add to their new nature journals. They hiked to the pollinator garden for great shots of butterflies, learned about the bats in the bat house and went down the River Trail to the Suwannee. They spotted small grass frogs hopping across the dirt road, so after lunch, they studied Florida`s tree frogs. Everyone left with a toy frog, bat ring, a journal, and a coloring book.

Brianna and Myna Sandland, Brett Ford, Annie, and Megan McCain finish decorating their nature jourrnals.

Only 2 more Discovery Day Camps remain at the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge: August 2nd and 16th from 9:00 am until 1:00 PM. Make reservations for the hayride and adventure through the habitat-rich Refuge. The new classroom has colorful, fun learning tools to keep your student`s brain engaged in the outdoors, so don`t miss out. Call the Ranger at 352/493-0238 for more information or to make reservations.
