Fire Destroys Structure in Rosewood

Fire Destroys Structure in Rosewood

Ada Lang

The Rosewood Volunteer Fire Department was first on the scene at a fire Monday evening in Rosewood, however, the fire had been burning for quite some time and consumed the building and all its contents.

The Cedar Key Volunteer Fire Department arrived moments later. Fire Chief Robert Robinson and six of his volunteer firefighters responded but were unable to save a guest house and attached pole barn at the property of Glenn and Sandra Hultgren, located at 4490 SW CR 345.

The owners were not home at the time and no animals were hurt. The owners estimated their losses at about $200,000, including the structure and contents that included ATVs, yard equipment, and a fully outfitted, wood-lined log guest house, complete with taxidermy and other unusual items.

In addition to personnel, CKVFD also sent four pieces of apparatus. The Fowler`s Bluff and Chiefland units, a medical unit and the Department of Forestry also were on the scene with equipment and personnel to provide assistance. The DOF provided a dozer to battle the fire that had spread into the pine trees and palmetto underbrush. Morriston`s department arrived last but were kept onsite to help mop up the scene.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and is still under investigation.
