Police Chief Sandlin addresses Cedar Key Lions

Rory Brennan

Lion Vice President Steve Rosenthal and President Pam Oakley look on as Cedar Key Police Chief Virgil Sandlin addresses Cedar Key Lions Club members at their regular meeting on Oct. 23.

Chief Sandlin, a Cedar Key resident and 30 year Florida Highway Patrol veteran, heads up the Cedar Key Police department of three full time, five part time and one reserve officer.

Most officers come to Cedar Key as fresh graduates from the police academy. Chief Sandlin has made officer training a top priority, with the goal of Cedar Key having the best trained police force in the state.

Sandlin described a typical day in his life as police chief, answered public safety questions from Lions members, and spoke of his duties as Interim Public Works Director for the City of Cedar Key. He received a standing ovation from the Lions in appreciation of his service.
