FICTION BOOK BUNCH NEWS

The NON-FICTION BOOK BUNCH will meet on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at 1:30PM at the Cedar Key Library. The discussion will center upon Candice Millard`s The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt`s Darkest Journey.

At this gathering, we will decide upon future selections. Please, bring suggestions with you. Proposed thus far are:
* S.C. Gwynne`s Empire of the Summer Moon;
* Manning Marable`s Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention.
* Nicholas Kristof`s and Sheryl WuDunn`s Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. "A PBS documentary is available for further consideration."
* Edmund DeWaal`s The Hare with Amber Eyes. "DeWaal is a world famous ceramicist who inherited a collection of small Japanese carvings - all that remained of the nineteenth century banking dynasty in Paris and Vienna headed by his great grandfather. A memoir of the Ephrussis family."
* Kevin Boyle`s Arc of Justice: a Saga of Race, Civil Rights and Murder in the Jazz Age. "This is the story of a largely forgotten incident in America`s Civil Rights Movement in Detroit that lead to the Ossian Sweet trial."
The above annotations are from Nita Cox.

Hope to see you there.

FICTION BOOK BUNCH NEWS

The FICTION BOOK BUNCH will meet on Monday, December 10, 2012, at 1:30PM at the Cedar Key Library. This meeting will discuss Russell Banks` The Lost Membory of Skin. "This book interweaves the Adam and Eve myth with the experiences of a modern day outcast and finds it still part of the human experience. It follows two characters in a South Florida Eden."

The January 14 meeting will discuss Hector Tobar`s The Barbarian Nurseries. "The book takes place in Los Angeles where a quarreling couple each leave home after a fight, not realizing that they have left their housekeeper with their two sons."

In the November meeting, discussion involved the following.
* Mysteries topping the list included the following authors: Jo Nesbo, Henning Mankel, Lars Kepler, Louise Penny, and Tom Franklin.
* Vintage novels such as Rules of Civility by Amor Towles and the Floods of Spring
* Other suggestions included the following: Ron Nash novels such as Saints at the River; The Shoemaker`s Wife by Adrianne Trigiani; Divorce, Italian Style by Amara Lakhous; Fossil Hunter by Emlen; Dress Lodger by Shen Holman; Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver.
The above notes are from Maggie Funchion.

Hope to see you there.
