New Inspirations - Gernhardt Raku Pottery Exhibit

New Inspirations - Gernhardt Raku Pottery Exhibit

Maureen Landress

For fifty years Master Ceramist, Henry Gernhardt, has been stretching clay and imagination at his potter's wheel and bench, into works of stunning beauty. The shapes appear so simple at first, almost traditional, but a closer look quickly shatters that illusion. The glaze colors are rich, deep and lustrous; with subtle textures woven throughout each piece. This is pottery that almost begs to be touched!

As a member of the 12 Artists@Cedar Key group, Henry's work is currently on display at the historic Island Hotel on 2nd Street in Cedar Key. The old hotel lends itself perfectly for such a venture, the pottery pieces are tucked into an old built-in sideboard, and glow like dark jewels against the pale rose colored shelves.

The exhibit of Gernhardt's pottery will run through the month of June, and can be seen daily from 10:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. in the hotel dining room.
