Maureen Landress

Saturday November 6th, an artists' reception marked the opening of a special exhibit at the local Arts Center. The juried show's theme was a tribute to the 75th Anniversary of the Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge and the 25th anniversary of the Lower Suwannee Wildlife Refuge. All of the works exhibited depicted the flora and fauna of the refuges.

Refuge Manager Ken Litzenberger, and Ranger Pam Darty were thrilled to see the number of artists who had participated. Arts Center member Bob Witman, who emceed the event, spoke of the scenic beauty of the refuges and the fact that they are an "extremely valuable resource" to this community and the State as a whole.

Judging the exhibit was renowned wildlife specialist Lovett Williams. Mr. Williams said it was a difficult decision to pick the winners, as the scope of both the talent and style of the participating artists was phenomenal. In making his decision the most important factor was adherence to the theme of the show; portrayal of the wildlife refuges.
