The Arts Center had a great year of exhibits and plans to continue with some excellent shows this winter and spring. Starting off in January a group, known as "The Virginia Eight", will exhibit some 45 paintings consisting of oil, watercolor and pastel media. These Hot Springs, Virginia artists have painted together since 1995, both in outdoor and studio environments, and enjoy exhibiting as a group wherever they can. Suzanne Ross, who teaches a watercolor workshop in Cedar Key each year, is a member of this group and has arranged for the show. The opening and artists' reception will be on Saturday, January 8th from 5 to 7 pm. The show will continue through February 12th.

The last two weeks of February will be used to clean up the Gallery for the Center's second biennial national juried show. We anticipate hanging between 50 and 60 works from which four cash prizes will be awarded. The judge for this event is Dr Rebecca Martin Nagy, Director of the Harn Museum at the University of Florida. The exhibit will open on Saturday, March 5th with a gala artists' reception.

A number of workshops will be available in January. Chris Rexroat will start her series of basket-making on Monday, January 31st. A complete basket will be made during the one-day session. Beginners are welcome. For more information Chris can be reached at 543-9191. Painting workshops are not, as yet, finalized. However anyone interested in watercolor or pastel classes should contact Joy Witman at 543-5830.
