"Voices of the Virginia Eight" Opens at Arts Center Gallery

Maureen Landress

The world is your oyster, when you get a little help from your friends. At least that's what this group of talented artists has discovered. Reading the book "The Artist's Way" inspired them to start a support group with a circle of friends, to nurture and uplift their spirits. The group has now been exhibiting their work for ten years.

Diversity is the norm with the "Eight", whether it is in age, talent, or medium; but the uniqueness each member has contributed makes the group the success that it is today.

Their work includes mediums like acrylic, watercolor, oils, collage and pastel. The group feels their work reflects "studies of human relationships", and offers the viewer a new perspective on everyday life.

From vivid florals to serene pastorals to eye-catching abstracts, this exhibit showcases just a mouthwatering taste of their brilliant works.

The artists are: Susan Trotter, Ruth Frederick, Vera Dickerson, Suzanne Ross, Diane Patton, Shirley Johnson, Jane Iten, and Revelle Hamilton.

The exhibit is free and open to the public and will run through February 12th. The gallery is located above the Keyhole Shop on 2nd Street.
