The New York Institute of Photography's "Birds" photo contest received thousands of entries, and the judges said "we had quite a time trying to narrow down the winners as we had so many wonderful pictures to choose from". Local photographer Rose Valle was one of those thousands. Her action shot of a pelican in flight at sunset won an honorable mention. The judges noted that photographing a pelican in flight can be quite challenging under normal lighting conditions, but to capture it at sunset made it even more unique. The winning photo.
